Talk about a "Roar" that almost went wrong! Katy Perry had a heart-stopping moment during her Lifetimes Tour stop in San Francisco on Friday night, when a massive butterfly prop she was soaring on suddenly decided to take an unscheduled nosedive.
The "Part of Me" singer was belting out her 2013 anthem "Roar" at the Chase Centre, suspended high above the crowd on what's supposed to be a magical, flying butterfly. But as multiple fan videos quickly showed, this butterfly clearly wasn't having it. The prop, with Perry securely (or so we thought!) rigged to it, jerked violently and dropped without warning.
You could practically hear the collective gasp from the audience! Katy, ever the pro, instantly stopped singing, looking up at the mischievous contraption with a look that probably said, "Seriously, butterfly?!" She quickly regained her balance and composure, and like the true showstopper she is, started singing again as the prop swung precariously. Talk about keeping your cool under pressure!
This isn't the first time summer tours have seen a prop rebellion. Just last month, Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter tour had its own mid-air drama when a flying car prop tilted during a Houston concert. Thankfully, Queen Bey was quickly and safely lowered, no injuries reported.
