The legal saga surrounding Sean “Diddy” Combs has taken another surprising twist. An ex-girlfriend who was once a key witness for the prosecution has now written a letter to the judge, pleading for the disgraced mogul's release on bail.
Virginia Huynh, known as "Gina," was initially identified as “Victim-3” in the case against Diddy. She was expected to testify for the prosecution, but just days before the trial started, she went silent, and prosecutors told the court they had lost contact with her. Now, she has resurfaced in a major way—on Diddy’s side.
In a letter included in the defence's latest filing, Huynh publicly identified herself and told the judge that she does not believe Combs is a danger to the community. She wrote that he is a "committed family man" who has not been violent "in many years."
This is a stark contrast to her previous role in the case. During the trial, a former assistant testified that he once saw Diddy throwing apples at Huynh. Diddy's ex-girlfriend and star witness Cassie Ventura also testified about Diddy's infidelity with Huynh during their relationship.
Huynh's letter claims that while her relationship with Diddy "was not always perfect," he "embodied an energy of love, patience and gentleness that was markedly different from his past behaviour" by the time they broke up.
The defence is pushing hard for Combs’ release on a hefty $50 million bond. They argue he is neither a flight risk nor a danger. This comes after he was convicted last month on two charges of transportation to engage in prostitution. He was, however, acquitted on the more severe charges of racketeering conspiracy and sex trafficking, which could have meant a life sentence.
Diddy's lawyers are also trying to overturn the conviction entirely, filing a motion to either acquit him or grant a new trial. They're calling his conviction "unconstitutional."
Meanwhile, other witnesses, including Cassie Ventura, have written their own letters to the judge, pleading for Diddy to remain in jail. They have expressed fear for their safety if he were to be released before his sentencing on October 3. The judge initially denied Diddy bail, citing the very public evidence of his history of violence against Ventura.
