NAIVASHA – A tragic collision between a cargo train and a Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) bus at the Morendat Junction in Naivasha has left at least six people dead. The accident, which occurred Thursday afternoon, also left an undetermined number of people injured.

According to witnesses, the bus, carrying KPC staff, was attempting to cross the railway line when it was hit by the oncoming train. The train driver reportedly applied emergency brakes, but was unable to stop in time to avoid the crash.

Eyewitnesses at the scene confirmed six fatalities, with rescue efforts immediately underway to extract those trapped in the wreckage. Police have been deployed to manage the situation and the resulting traffic gridlock along the busy route.

The Kenya Pipeline Company has released a statement confirming the accident, noting that the bus was transporting staff who were finishing their morning shift. KPC stated that it has already mobilized a rescue team to assist with the ongoing efforts.

"We are working closely with the medical teams and local authorities to ensure the injured receive the best possible care and to facilitate airlifts for the critically injured," the company's statement read. "At this time, our thoughts and prayers are with our colleagues and their families."

The company added that all injured parties were immediately evacuated to local hospitals in Naivasha. The train sustained no significant damage in the collision.
