President William Ruto has appointed Charles Kamau Karondo as the new non-executive Chairperson of the Communications Authority of Kenya (CA) Board, replacing Mary Wambui Mungai. This move, announced in a gazette notice on Friday, is part of a larger reshuffle that sees Wambui take over Karondo's former role.
In a seemingly strategic swap, Wambui, a prominent figure and alleged financier of Ruto's United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party, will now serve as the non-executive Chairperson of the Athi Water Works Development Agency Board. Her appointment to this new role was made by Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary Eric Mugaa.
Wambui’s previous appointment as the CA Chairperson in December 2022 has been revoked, as has Karondo's position at the Athi Water Works Development Agency. The changes are effective August 8, 2025, and both Karondo and Wambui will serve for three-year terms.
Wambui, the director of Purma Holdings Limited, was previously at the centre of a tax evasion case involving Ksh2.2 billion, which was withdrawn by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) in January 2023.
