NAIROBI – Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has raised a red flag over what he terms as a worrying trend by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), cautioning that the electoral body’s actions could be a prelude to the manipulation of the 2027 General Election.

Speaking to a local news outlet, the outspoken lawmaker expressed his concern about the IEBC's handling of parliamentary nomination and by-election timelines. Sifuna, who also serves as the Secretary-General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), questioned the commission's adherence to legal procedures and timelines, suggesting that the inconsistencies could be a deliberate attempt to lay the groundwork for future electoral interference.

"We are watching the IEBC very closely," Sifuna stated, "The way they are managing these simple processes like by-elections and nominations is not inspiring confidence. The timelines are being flouted, and the lack of clarity is alarming. This is how the stage is set for a larger, more sophisticated scheme to subvert the will of the people in 2027."

The Nairobi Senator called on all Kenyans to remain vigilant and to actively resist any attempts to interfere with their democratic right to choose their leaders. He emphasized that the integrity of the electoral process is the cornerstone of a stable democracy and that citizens must not allow it to be compromised.

Sifuna’s remarks come amidst ongoing political discussions and debates about the next general election. His comments have reignited the conversation around the IEBC's preparedness and impartiality, issues that have historically been a point of contention in Kenyan politics. The IEBC has yet to respond to the senator's accusations.
