Neil Wigan, the British High Commissioner to Kenya, is set to leave his post at the end of August, concluding a two-year tenure that saw significant strengthening of the relationship between the two nations.

Wigan will be moving to London to take up a new role as Director General Strategy and Delivery at the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).

Reflecting on his time in Kenya, Wigan highlighted key milestones, including the historic visit of His Majesty King Charles III, the signing of a new Kenya-UK Strategic Partnership, and crucial infrastructure projects like the Nairobi Railway City. He also noted the training of Kenyan marines by the UK and investments in various sectors.

"Since I arrived in 2023, the close partnership between our two great nations has seen the historic visit of His Majesty King Charles III...and so much more," he said.

Wigan expressed his admiration for Kenya's potential, having witnessed it firsthand from the tea plantations of Bomet County to the tech hub of Silicon Savannah. He also cited his participation in a Maasai elders meeting and seeing how UK support is empowering women-led businesses in Wajir.

The British High Commission announced that Wigan's successor will be named in the coming months. In the interim, Deputy High Commissioner Dr. Ed Barnett will serve as Chargé d'Affaires.

Wigan’s diplomatic career has included ambassadorships to the Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, and Israel. He also previously worked in the Cabinet Office and the FCO on Middle Eastern and EU economic issues
