NAIROBI – The National Police Service and Kenya's third contingent to the Multinational Security Support Mission (MSS-Haiti) are in mourning following the tragic death of Corporal Kennedy Mutuku Nduve. The 41-year-old officer from the elite Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) passed away on Sunday, August 31, 2025, after a road accident in Haiti.

The fatal incident occurred along the Kenscoff–Pétion-Ville road, specifically at Pèlerin 9. Corporal Nduve’s death came during a recovery operation that involved two armored vehicles. One of the vehicles was being towed due to a mechanical failure when the accident took place. The crash also tragically claimed the lives of two Haitian civilians and left eight other MSS officers injured. Three of the injured are reported to have been in serious condition, but officials confirm they are now stable and out of danger.

Born on March 8, 1984, in Machakos County, Corporal Nduve was a dedicated public servant. He joined the police service in 2005 and had a distinguished career serving in various challenging parts of Kenya, including Narok and Baringo counties. His deployment to Haiti represented his commitment to a cause of global peace and security.

A memorial service was held in his honour in Haiti, a testament to the respect he had earned from his colleagues and the mission leadership. His body was subsequently flown to the Dominican Republic for preservation as arrangements are being made for his repatriation back to Kenya, where he will be laid to rest.

Both the Multinational Security Support Mission to Haiti (MSS-Haiti) and the National Police Service have confirmed his death. Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Korir Sing'oei also offered condolences, praising Corporal Nduve’s dedication and selflessness. His untimely death is a profound loss for the Kenyan mission in Haiti and his country, which sent its officers to help restore stability and security in the Caribbean nation. Corporal Nduve will be remembered for his bravery and unwavering commitment to his duty.
