Zimbabwe has secured a spot in the 2027 Rugby World Cup after edging out Namibia 30-28 in a tightly contested Africa Cup final held on Saturday. This historic win marks Zimbabwe’s return to the global rugby stage after a 36-year absence, with their last appearance being in 1991.

While Zimbabwe celebrates their qualification, Namibia's World Cup hopes remain alive. The Namibian team, which has featured in the last seven consecutive World Cups, still has a pathway to qualification. They will face the United Arab Emirates in a crucial play-off match. A win in that fixture would send them to the final qualification tournament set for November in Dubai.

Zimbabwe's previous World Cup journey in 1991 was a tough outing. They were unable to register a win, suffering heavy defeats against Ireland (55-11), Scotland (51-12), and Japan (52-8). Now, with a new generation of players and renewed determination, Zimbabwe aims to rewrite their World Cup history on Australian soil in 2027.

Australia will host the 2027 edition of the tournament, which is expected to draw significant global attention. Zimbabwe’s qualification adds a fresh African presence to the competition and signals a potential shift in the continent’s rugby power balance.
